Furthermore, getting inadequate amounts of sleep affects are health, both mentally and physically; preventing us from performing at our best.  No one wants to go on a job interview after only a couple hours of sleep.   Moreover, taking sleeping pills or other sleep-aids only makes us feel drowsy and sluggish the next day.  So, knowing how important it is to sleep peacefully through the night, the best thing we can do is to find natural sleep remedies that actually work.

Food Intake Before Bed

Avoid spicy foods just before bedtime because they can give you heartburn. On the other hand, it is advised to not eat at all before bed, as you cannot predict how your body will react to whatever you’ve eaten.

Milk, Honey & Tea:

Warm milk, or a cup of hot tea will relax you as your body winds down from the day.  Chamomile tea is known for helping people with insomnia.  Hot tea is soothing and relaxing. Just make sure it’s decaffeinated.

Exercise

Although working out close to bedtime is not recommended, exercising in the evening, 3-4 hours before bed, can prepare your body for total relaxation. The theory is by the time you go to bed, your body is tired.  In addition, exercising give us a feeling of well-being, and we feel good because we’ve done something to benefit our minds and physical appearance. This can make us feel less anxious.

Lighting and Noise

Some people can fall asleep under any condition; lights on and noise all around them.  However, for the vast majority of us, sleeping well means a dark and quiet room.  So, it’s important that the lighting in your bedroom is not too bright and noisy.

Sound and Relaxing Music

To help people with insomnia get to sleep, relaxing music and sound effects are often recommended.  Sound effects such as ocean waves or soft music can help a person slowly drift off to sleep.
