Some of these are practiced everyday, not realizing how they can aid us in quickly falling asleep.  Also, it is important to point out that if you are under a doctor’s care for insomnia, to consult with your physician before adding to or making changes to your treatment plan. Here are a few approaches to consider.

Recognize stress, worry and anxiety.  Usually, they are the “big 3” that keeps us from resting peacefully.  There are natural herbs, which are known for producing feelings of relaxation. An example would be Chamomile.  As a cup tea before bed, it can make you feel tranquil and ready for sleep.

Take a look at your daily living habits to see if something could be preventing you from getting the sleep you need.  For example, maybe you have a  habit of staying up longer than you should.

Exercising 3-4 hours before bed will fatigue your muscles and make you relaxed enough to fall asleep.  In addition, after exercise you  normally feel satisfied and good about yourself, which reduces stress.

Watch what you eat before bed.  For example, spicy foods can give you heartburn.  Also, avoid large meals.  It’s better to eat a light snack made with tryptophan.  Tryptophan is an amino acid that is found in protein based foods such as, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, red meat, eggs, fish, poultry, sesame, chickpeas.
